The device that wakes politicians up with loud sirens from Ukraine in real time

For Razom for Ukraine, one of the largest nonprofit organizations representing Ukraine on the international stage, and in partnership with our Spanish friends from the creative agency Officer & Gentleman, we developed the Air Raid Alarm Clock—a device that transmits air raid alerts from across Ukraine in real time. Its siren serves as a reminder to U.S. and EU politicians that inaction in continuing support for Ukraine could have fatal consequences.

A Clock That Reminds the World of War

Air raid sirens have become a part of our daily lives. This sound has remained unchanged for three years. What is changing, however, is the global political landscape—one example being the recent talks between Donald Trump and vladimir putin, held without Ukraine’s participation. While discussions about our future happen without us, russia continues to attack Ukrainian cities.

AirRaid Alarm Clock looks like a regular smart clock but is connected to Ukraine’s official alert system. Every time an air raid siren goes off in any Ukrainian city, the clock reproduces the same chilling sound. Its display shows which regions are under attack, what percentage of Ukraine’s territory is in danger, and a live counter of days since the full-scale invasion began.

Given that the siren sounds an average of 42 times a day, politicians have plenty of reasons to reconsider whether they can continue ignoring this sound.

Action in Washington and Brussels

On February 17, we installed the Air Raid Alarm Clock in Place du Luxembourg, right in front of the European Parliament, during emergency meetings on the situation in Ukraine. Throughout the day, passersby and European politicians stopped to learn more about the device.

The message was simple: if we don’t stop Russia now, these sirens could become a reality in their own cities.

In the near future, 10 units of the Air Raid Alarm Clock will also be delivered to U.S. senators and members of Congress.

Creative Alliance: Ukraine + Spain

The Air Raid Alarm Clock project was created by the Creative Alliance—a collaboration of creative agencies, designers, and technologists from Ukraine and Spain.

Participants include: Arriba! (Kharkiv), Officer & Gentleman, Fabs Robotics, Canal Creativo (Madrid), Goloso Creative Studio (Murcia), Ricorico (Valencia), Secret Films, Pijama Studio, and director David Alcalde (Barcelona).

Fortunately for the Western world, the war in Ukraine remains just images on the internet. But for us, it is an everyday reality—the sound of explosions, air raid sirens, anxiety, fear for our loved ones, and life between shelters. We, Ukrainians, will keep fighting for our freedom and democracy because that is what we believe in. But we also want to remind the world that the war in the largest country in Europe is not a distant event that can be ignored. It has already changed the world and can reach any home.

Air Raid Alarm Clock is our way of making at least a few people in the world hear what we hear every day. If words fail to break through the deafness of politicians, perhaps sound will—a sound that cannot be ignored.
